Innovative massage tools take to the head, design

Home massage contraptions are too ubiquitous to qualify as a trend; however, what part of the body they focus on is subject to fad appeal. Like the finger care massagers we covered last year. At the moment we are seeing quite a few head and neck massagers, and to stay ahead of the crowds some pretty unique innovations are in order.

The Head Kenzan(shop link), from Dream, for examples takes its design inspiration from a traditional tool used in ikebana flower arranging called a “kenzan.” In the case of the original, the spikes are used to hold the flower stems in place; with the Head Kenzan, however, the spikes are turned upside down and rubbed back and forth along the head for a stimulating, feel good massage.

Then there is the Healing Hands Chiropractic Massager, from Arnest, another contraption that models itself after a real-world tool, in this case hands. (shop link)

The device, made from urethane foam, is created using a mold made from the hands of an actual practicing chiropractor, set in the clinical position used to ease strain and tension at the base of the head.

Another interesting innovation is the Sawa Foot Mat from Nagae, which takes its cue from the successful and ever growing world of industrial design. Reminiscent of rippling water, the shiny aluminum peaks are meant to stimulate pressure points on the soles of your feet. (shop link)

However, the Sawa Mat is also very much meant to be a displayable accessory for your increasingly designer apartment. After all, if your power cords and recyclables have already got the product design treatment, why not your foot mat too?
