Normally we don’t get so excited about cutlery (having long ceded authority to chopsticks), but there’s just something about the Calamete that has grabbed at us since we saw it at the Tokyo Gift Show this year. Sure, we can’t keep a different fork for every type of food, but why not for the popular ones?

The design of Calamete is based on the human hand, with a “thumb” that sticks out to make perfect twirling without needing the spoon. While it’s difficult to fill a drawer with forks only for pasta night, this is an innovation that would work perfectly in plastic form as well, especially in Japan’s convenience store RTE meals.

Genius!
Uh, wouldn’t this easily poke the user in the lip? It looks potentially painful — but innovative & cute. It’d take a MAJOR low-cost promo to get me to try one — but I would.
You see, Italians do not use a spoon to twirl their pasta– that is an American (or Italian-American) invention. The way to eat your pasta in Italian “etiquette” and custom is with your fork well in hand and used in the agile way they taught you since you were a child. About this new gadget, Italians would certainly say “vai a fa’n..c…..!!”
Another idiotic idea from japan. It’s not difficult to eat spaghetti with a regular fork, and never a spoon! Truly retarded.
very cool, I will be picking up a set of those for sure!
I am sure I could find them on Amazon lol
