From the “Do you really want to put that in your mouth?” department comes the latest in creative tobacco branding from Japan, and this time it’s not even from Lucky Strike! Camel’s new Tasty “Nuts” Menthol cigarettes are branded as fresh, trendy, and for twenty-something males. The ads we’ve seen have a cool guy riding a motorcycle, sunglasses on, with the wind blowing through his hair. You know, just the kind of guy who craves the smooth flavor and aroma of some fresh, king-size, tasty nuts.

This is a product screaming for a catchy tag line. Any suggestions? We think it ranks right up there with Deepresso. Yeah, it’s funny, but this kind of marketing (including a free lighter) is way out of bounds in many countries. Marketing like this for tobacco really shows the degree of freedom to advertise here in Japan, and we hope it stays that way.

I am from Kentucky in the United States, Tobacco world! I am a big fan of Camel cigs. I recently visited Nagoya, Japan and found myself unable to my Camel cigarettes!! Oh no!!!!
I stoped a K conveniant store and found Camel “Tasty” nuts menthol. I love them! They have the perfect menthol taste and are not FSC (Fire Safety Cigs) like in Kentucky; so they taste that much better.
Bravo!
I lived in Japan for years, found this Engrish everywhere. But never saw these “tasty” nuts menthol. Its still funny to me because, so many Japanese have a good grasp on English.
