I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to assume that a lot of people of Asian descent read this site. Out of 10k+ per day there’s gotta be at least one that will match Janet Liang and save her life:
Check out Reddit for more. Bone marrow donation is actually a lot easier than I originally thought, but it’s still a choice to make. There is a serious lack of Asian doners though, so the impact of trying is even greater.
UPDATE: Also, in a reversal of fate, there’s a European father of two in Japan name Aidan O’Connor who is having trouble finding a match here. If you are in Japan and are caucasian there’s a much greater chance that you can be a match. Read Aidan’s homepage for details.
My Japanese wife and I are getting tested this week to see if we can help either Janet or Aidan. It’s easy, painless, and might save a life.

Thanks for posting this. I’ve been a registered bone marrow donor in the U.S. ever since a friend was diagnosed with leukemia in college. She and I are both 3/4 Vietnamese, 1/4 Chinese and there was no way I couldn’t get tested to see if I could somehow save her life. The lack of minority donors is a really big issue in the Asian community and will continue to be in the future as more mixed raced couples start families. There was a great article in US Glamour of all places recently that shares the story of a half-Japanese American woman’s struggle to find a bone marrow match. Just wanted to share in case anyone wanted to learn more.
most countries have an association for this, in Germany http://www.leukaemie-hilfe.de
