We saw it at the Tokyo Toy Show last summer, but the Ie Soba (Home Soba) maker from Takara Tomy is finally out on the market.

Fresh soba from scratch typically requires a lot of tools and work, but Ie Soba has condensed all of that into a small set that makes enough soba for two, and does so in only 20 minutes.

Besides the kit, all that’s required for Ie Soba is buckwheat powder, wheat flour, and water. We saw a demo at the Tokyo Gift Show, and it seemed simple enough for kids to use as well, though it seems to be geared more towards adults anyway. Below is a nice demo video that compares the Ie Soba way with the traditionally time consuming process.

Wow! That is a busy, mult-step process. Notquite a Popeilian “set it and forget it”. Hip replacement surgery has fewer steps and fewer swapped sub-out subassemblies. Love of fresh soba must be strong in Japan…
It’s not LE SOBA (I’m using all caps on purpose). It’s IE SOBA. IE= house/home in Japanese.
oh whoops commented on the wrong blog.
