We all know that the Japanese like plastic models and that there is certainly a very special local culture surrounding meishi (名刺, business cards).
Well, here’s something that combines both of these: Tamiya, who make model kits, came up with this DIY meishi for their activities in Thailand. As you can see, just like a regular business card, the company’s address and contact details are “written”, but as kit parts and these can then be used to build a variety of funky models.

Apparently Tamiya realized that people didn’t fully appreciate the skill and design that goes into their plastic models, and conceived the card as a promotional tool to raise respect for their brand and business. It advertises Tamiya basically as one of their products and was even recently awarded a Gold Design Lion at Cannes International Advertising Festival 2010.

It would turn a meishi exchange into a model-making competition. Like it!
