Mote Job, attractive work for attractive young women

“Moteru” (or “mote” for short) generally means “attractive” (as in, to the opposite sex) in Japanese. In recent years, however, teen and young adult fashion magazines have come to identify “mote-kei” or “attractive style” as cute and girly. Japan’s top selling fashion magazine Can Cam and its star model Ebi-chan are the most notable proponent of this look (although the magazine is often accused of simply grooming young women to land high status husbands).

Of course being on trend and adorable to up-and-coming ad execs requires a little pocket money, so it follows that even the “moteru” might need to have a job. And it occurred to Cotora Japan that they might prefer a “mote job,” which is the name of their new job-hunting website.

Aimed at 20-somethings, the site lists jobs in categories such as beauty, medical care, apparel, and cafes. These are apparently all safe jobs that would not detract from a young woman’s desirability. The site, launched at the end of October, is also accessible from the mobile web and includes an e-commerce component in the form of the “Mote Shop,” which promises to rid you of your hard-earned “mote yen” with items like aroma therapy oils (needed to de-stress from work, of course).

Registration however, is free.
