New App Makes For Musical Matchmaking

A fun new free app from Japanese company TYO Inc has been released just in time for users to grab some New Year or Xmas kisses. The ChuChu (meaning kiss kiss) Tune app is a “playlist match maker” that aims at hooking up two musically likeminded individuals.

Designed to “test out the chemistry between 2 iPhone users” the app is available in English and Japanese. Users simply have to launch the app and hold it close to their desired partner who also have the app running. Holding the phones face to face, “as if they are kissing, keep your heart beating to your favorite tune while waiting”, the app then accesses and searches through both parties music libraries whilst playing a small tune itself. If a matching song is found it brings up the song on both users phones, and so sparking the start of a long and fulfilling relationship based on your mutual musical tastes….or at least a conversation point to kick two budding lovebirds off!

There is a nice option to then assign your newly acquired musical soul mate a cute nickname and it also lists a ranking of songs that match each other, so the more matching tunes the stronger the chance of a quick Xmas kiss. On the other hand if his AKB48 didn’t match with her Hifana, it also pops up with an amusing message basically telling each person to move on to someone a bit more akin to their musical tastes, and sugests music that the other partner recommends.

The website also features suggestions of situations where the app would come in handy to maximise your chances of finding a musically appropriate partner. A nicely laid out fun app the graphics are well designed and in socially awkward Japan would at least provide a conversation piece if nothing else. Novelty aside however the app could also be used as a great fun way to launch new music to users by suggesting similar songs for purchase that match the users tastes. By discovering songs together with another user it also brings in a social side to browsing new tunes akin to the days of flicking through CD racks in a music store with a friend, something that is lacking when looking through music on iTunes today.
