While some phones are making music down at the KDDI Designing Studio, the Ply concept phone from Hideo Kanbara might just be a step towards bringing the office with us.
Ply’s name is taken from the design of multilayered plywood, and each layer has its own very distinct function, ranging from a photo printer to game controller to mini digital projector.

This is of course a concept only, but in this day and age does it seem out of reach? With all the amazing games available on Japanese handsets, the controller layer is a definite plus, though it would be even better to have a wireless version to use while using the built in projector!

If you want to see Ply in person it’s on display down at the KDDI Designing Studio in Harajuku, most likely until the end of the month. If you want this in your pocket, you’ll probably have to wait a little while.

That is one stylish phone. I wouldn t mind one.
Cool blog!
Good idea but the problem would be the power supply.
ok if you want to carry a car (auto) battery on your back. good way to keep fit though!
Very nice concept design. The only ones I think would be hard is of course, the printer and projector. The projector itself may not be that hard, but to find a powerful enough light source and then have to add on a powerful enough source of power. As for the printer, the hardest part I think would be ink, let alone regular quality, photo quality would require an enormous amount of ink. Not to mention, would only fit small photo size papers, not full fledge papers unless it would be long, real long. Overall great design, most of the other functions can actually be done, might be able with today’s technology.
Great design, same here worried about the projector and how it prints. Its going to be drinking alot of power. Screen display looks good.
Actually, although the PLY as described here is unavailable, I’m pretty sure there is a PLY for sale (my question is where).
