Kadokawa X Media, the publisher behind Walker Plus, the popular series of city and lifestyle magazines and websites, is taking a future step forward with its newest member, Virtual World Walker.

The series already covers major areas in Japan through titles like Tokyo Walker and Hokkaido Walker, as well as themes such as Wedding Walker and Gourmet Walker.

The website went live a couple of months ago, but the accompanying print magazine hit the stands just this month. While the topics, like stylish places for celebrating a special occasion, translate into the virtual world, the sexed-up avatar on the cover is a noticeable new direction for the mainstream publisher whose covers often feature smiling young actresses in kimonos.
The debut issues has articles that include trendy activities in the virtual world and tips for Second Life dating, plus a report from the Virtual World Summit 2007 and practical advice for using Second Life.

It seems a bit incongruent to have an old-fashioned print magazines as a guide for something as contemporary as Second Life, so it makes sense that the website is much more exciting and comprehensive, complete with a fashion board of self-posted sexy and stylish avatars, another board for posting snapshots and movies from Second Life excursions, and a social networking forum.

never had the urge to go on second life. I wonder why it’s actually so popular though..?
